Malaysia's AirAsia eyes Africa, Europe from new India hub

(MENAFN) AirAsia, the Malaysian airline, announced it is considering using its new India hub to expand its network to reach both Europe and Africa as the airline begins to develop long-term plans for its new hub, Gulf News reported.

AirAsia admitted that its plan will take a long time to be executed due to AiAsia India's license, which currently does not allow the carrier to fly overseas from India, and that is why the airline will first focus on building AirAsia India's domestic network.

AirAsia first planned to use its new India hub, which launched its flights from its Bengaluru hub in June, for domestic flights within India and to focus on less known cities before announcing they are looking at Mumbai and Delhi as new routes.

The carrier is also looking to expand its fleet to have 20 planes compared to the six A320s which the airline has despite deferring its 17 Airbus A320 aircraft order earlier this year and it being unlikely to take anymore aircraft from its massive 300 order until late 2016.
