Ruling Coalition Wins Latvia Parliamentary Elections


(MENAFN- QNA) Latvia's centre-right coalition government won a majority of the votes in parliamentary elections, the Central Election Commission said Sunday.

Together, Prime Minister Laimdota Straujuma's Unity party, the Union of Greens and Farmers, and the National Alliance took nearly 58 per cent of the ballots, the commission said after about 95 per cent of the votes in Saturday's elections had been counted.

Thirteen parties and coalitions vied for seats in parliament. Voter turnout was 59 per cent, the commission said.
