PMI became involved in the market again following its acquisition of Sampoerna in 2005 and now leads the market with a share of just under 30%. A report in July 2013 indicated that BAT was planning to re-enter the market through a majority-owned joint venture. Undertaken in partnership with IMU Enterprise BATnepalleb plans to begin production of cigarettes in Myanmar again.
