Cameron Assures Support to Afghanistan

(MENAFN- QNA) The British Prime Minister David Cameron has assured his constant support to Afghanistan, promising 178 million pounds in annual aid for the next three years, Afghan news agency (Pajhwok) reported.

For his part, the new Afghani president Ashraf Ghani thanked the Nato forces for the sacrifices they offered for Afghanistan, saying that Nato forces contributed to making the world safer. His statement was contrary to the tone of his predecessor Hamid Karzai who doubled over the past years his criticism to Nato mission rejecting the signing of a security agreement seeking to maintain foreign forces in his country during 2015 after the expiry of the combat mission of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF).

The British prime minister arrived here today on a surprise visit to Afghanistan which comes four days after the inauguration of Ashraf Ghani as new president in the wake of months of political unrest that followed the presidential elections and the approval of Ghani's rival Abdullah Abdullah of its result and Ghani's assumption of power as president.
