Belgian jet fighters fly reconnaissance mission over Iraq


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) For the first time in Belgiumآ's history, two Belgian F-16 fighter jets flew through Iraqi airspace near the capital Baghdad on Wednesday, Belgian media reported Thursday.

After their reconnaissance mission, they returned to their base in Jordan. They did not carry out any airstrikes.

Last week, Belgium sent six F-16 fighter jets to be based in Jordan as are part of the international coalition led by the United States against the ISIL.

The main objective of the F-16 mission was to collect tactical information and to neutralise ground targets. The operation is called "Operation Desert Falcon."
