Acquittal upheld for man accused of molesting kid

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The court had cleared the Pakistani man in May of the charges of molesting the little girl and her 5-year-old brother for lack of evidence.

The Dubai Court of Appeals upheld the acquittal verdict of a 46-year-old driver on the charge of molesting his neighbour’s 9-year-old daughter several times in two years by luring her to play with her siblings in his flat.

The Court of First Instance had cleared the Pakistani man in May of the charges of molesting the little girl and her 5-year-old brother for lack of evidence and contradictory statements of witnesses. The accused earlier denied the charges in court and claimed he was coerced into confession in the investigation.

The defendant’s alleged crime was reported to the police on February 1 after the girl broke down in tears and told her grandmother what he did to her.

The girl’s father a 32-year-old Pakistani manager said the accused was his neighbour in the Italian cluster in International City.

He said his children visited the accused and his wife regularly as they did not have children of their own. The little girl told her father that the accused “would distract” her “two brothers by engaging them in games and take” her “to his bedroom”.

A police lieutenant said that they arrested the accused outside his building. The verdict may be appealed by the Public Prosecution.— marykhaleejtimes.com
