Towards a smarter and happier Dubai


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) New legislations infrastructure to catapult city into smartest city in the world.Dubai is developing legislations and infrastructure that will fast track the emirate into a smarter and happier city by 2017. This plan was unveiled on Wednesday at the second session of the Smart Cities Forum hosted by the Mohammed Bin Rashid School of Government (MBRSG) a research and teaching institution focusing on public policy in the Arab world.



The session focused on the need for leveraging Big Data for operational and analytical purposes to better plan and conceptualise urban infrastructure and cities of the future which is critical for the evolution of smart cities.



In her opening address Dr Aisha bin Bishr a member of the Executive Committee for Dubai Smart City Initiatives noted that Dubai is keen to develop a unique smart city model.



Dr Bin Bishr who is also the assistant director-general of the Executive Office of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and the Ruler of Dubai told Khaleej Times that the upcoming legislative framework and guidelines will govern all bodies handling smart data. “Smart Dubai is a holistic view of the city. Our vision is to be the smartest city within three years. So we are not just talking about the government sector which is just one stakeholder. The guidelines will be for the entire city all entities involved in different layers.”



She said the legislative guidelines will tackle crucial aspects of data security and privacy of the people. “Safety is one of the main strategic pillars in our initiative.
