Qatar Stresses Necessity of Finding Just Solution to Palestinian Refugees Plight


(MENAFN- QNA) The State of Qatar has underlined the necessity of finding a just solution to the plight of the Palestine refugees and put an end to their suffering as a result of the ongoing Israeli policies, inhuman and illegal practices against the Palestinian people. It called for achieving stability, peace and justice of which the Palestinians were deprived for so long, and on the basis of international law and the relevant United Nations resolutions, including General Assembly resolution 194, considering a just solution to the Palestinian refugee issue is one of the most important pillars for achieving a lasting solution to the question of Palestine, and the achievement of security and stability in the region.

This came in a speech by Mohannad Al Hammadi, Deputy Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Office at Geneva during the 65th session of the Executive Committee of the High Commissioner's programme of UNHCR.

Al Hammadi said the Government and the people of the State of Qatar, under the guidance of wise leadership are keen to be present in a large number of humanitarian crises throughout the world without distinction between religion and nationality, to provide various types of humanitarian assistance and relief to refugees, the displaced and affected persons where a number of national charities, notably the Qatari Red Crescent and Qatar Charity Foundation (RAF) and Qatar Charity have held strategic partnerships to serve humanitarian action in the field of refugee protection, and set up international cooperation networks, which proved to be proactive in the face of crises, and access to communities and people in need of humanitarian assistance, he added.

Al Hammadi noted the major role played by the UNHCR as a key partner in the global initiative ""Educate A Child, which was launched by HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, 2012, in order to help achieve the millennium development goal (MDGs) by enabling 10 million children who are not enrolled in schools around the world to access quality primary education by 2015/2016. He noted that the program has contributed in one year time after its launch through it executive partners in the registration of more than two million children who are not attending school.

He stressed in this regard that any effort to tackle the challenges and problems of refugees must be accompanied by political will and concerted efforts by the international community so as to reach practical solutions to address the root of the problem and reduce its effects through an integrated approach based on moral and humanitarian considerations for refugees problems in order to achieve stability and security and to promote and protect the human rights.
