Oman Sail teams upbeat over ESS Act 7 challenge

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) As the 2014 Extreme Sailing Series (ESS) gears up for Act 7 in Nice France to be held later this week Oman Sail's teams on The Wave Muscat and Oman Air are relishing the challenge and the intensity.

Act 7 on the French coastline starts on October 2 and continues through to October 5 with up to 32 races scheduled. Lying just one point behind series leader Alinghi after closing the gap in Istanbul Turkey The Wave Muscat is focusing on the last two events of the season starting with Nice on Thursday and the double-points finale in Sydney Australia in December.

According to The Wave Muscat's skipper Leigh McMillan who will be defending his 2013 victory in Nice the escalating level of competition in ESS is proving to be quite motivating. 'We are quite enjoying the fact that the series is reaching boiling point and we are excited by the challenge' said the British skipper who for the seventh time this season will race with a crew comprising Nasser al Mashari Sarah Ayton Pete Greenhalgh and Kinley Fowler.

'It has become more competitive as the events have gone by but we are sailing really well and are still learning new things and improving all the time. So it is a nice situation to be in.'

Oman Air's fourth-place finish in Istanbul its best result of the series so far was a real boost for the team and reflected its focus on teamwork said skipper Rob Greenhalgh. 'We have got some really good guys onboard Oman Air who are beginning to gel well and we are reaping the rewards' he said of his crew comprising Ted Hackney Kyle Langford Hashim al Rashdi and Musab al Hadi. 'The only way to improve is to practise but with just one day dedicated to training at the start of each Act you see a lot of practice being done on the race course which makes it all the more interesting.'
