Bilawal set for political journey

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) A meeting of the core committee of Pakistan People's Party (PPP) was held yesterday in which it was decided that party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari would start the democratic journey from October 18, and would address the party's public meeting at Mazar-e-Quaid, resuming the journey started by Benazir Bhutto on October 18, 2007 as she had arrived in the country during the dictatorial rule.

Former prime minister Yusuf Raza Gilani announced this while speaking here at the media cell of the PPP where he informed newsmen about the decisions taken at the earlier-held core committee meeting of PPP, jointly chaired by party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and former president Asif Ali Zardari.

The meeting decided to hold big rallies in Punjab as well. While facing daunting challenge of regaining its position as the real opposition in the country, PPP has announced to hold the large public gathering at mausoleum of Quaid-i-Azam in Karachi on 18th October to commemorate seventh anniversary of the twin bombing at homecoming rally of late Benazir Bhutto at Karsaz in year 2007.

Gilani said the leaders and activists of PPP would accompany the party's chairman as he would once again start the journey for accomplishing unfinished mission of martyred leader of PPP Benazir Bhutto. Bilawal Bhutto has taken an apt decision to embark upon the incomplete journey of Benazir Bhutto to conclude her mission as at present, the country requires struggle for strengthening democracy, Constitution, parliament, and for resolution of problems of impoverished people.

Former PM said that when Benazir Bhutto had arrived in the country on October 18, 2007, Pakistan facing autocratic rule was at the crossroads as the late PPP leader had come back to her native land for ending dictatorial regime, for ensuring independence of judiciary and media and strengthening of the constitutional institutions.

Benazir Bhutto had been warned against arriving in the country but despite these threats, she had come back to the country.

He said Benazir Bhutto's homecoming rally was attacked near Karsaz where numerous people were killed and injured, once again signifying the sacrifices rendered by People's Party for the cause of democracy.

He said the previous PPP's government led by Asif Ali Zardari had taken steps for revival of the Constitution in its true spirit and for strengthening democracy and institutions.
