Qatar- Katara Eid festival to feature astronomy show, circus on ice

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) An array of events that combine knowledge and entertainment are set to enthrall visitors to Katara during the upcoming Eid Al Adha holidays.

Announcing the line-up of events at a press conference yesterday, Katara General Manager Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti said Katara was expected to witness exceptional Eid Al Adha celebrations with the unique events and activities it has prepared for visitors and tourists of all ages.

"The Eid Al Adha festival in Katara will be the first of its kind in the Arab world as it combines knowledge, entertainment and fun through impressive shows which embody the story of the universe, highlighted by amazing performances and fireworks display sure to delight the hearts of adults and children alike," said Dr Al Sulaiti.

A highlight of the festival will be a 35-minute show on astronomy that will be held thrice every evening for four days beginning on the first day of Eid Al Adha.

The show will be a feast for the senses and will consist of three parts, including the story of the universe and a Big Bang show concluding with a pyrotechnic display.

Theatre lovers will get the opportunity to enjoy an exceptional performance of the play 'Abu Salama', featuring a group of youths. The award-winning play throws light on the injustice done by one man to another, with the story centred on an ordinary worker.

The play will be staged from October 4 to 6, from 8 pm to 9.30 pm, at Katara Drama Theatre.

'Abu Salama' and the story of the universe show are both free for the public.

Another highlight of the Katara Eid Al Adha festival is a circus show on ice which is being brought to Qatar for the first time.

To run for two months starting October 4, 'Dreams on Ice' is a two-hour extravaganza on ice featuring elegant skating, acrobatic performances, stilt walkers, jugglers, magicians and hula hoop on ice as well as an animal show featuring dogs, cats and seals.

A large tent has been erected in the southeastern part of the Katara Corniche, where twice daily shows will be staged, except on Saturdays, when there will be three shows.

Tickets with prices ranging from QR100 to QR500 can be purchased at Virgin Megastores and online.
