Syria- ISIL leader killed in coalition airstrikes on Aleppo

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The Syrian opposition announced Tuesday the death of Saleh Al-Sheabi (Abu Hamza), one of the leaders of the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), in an airstrike by the international coalition forces on ISIL forces in northern Syria.

In a press statement, the Syrian opposition described Al-Sheabi as one of the most prominent leaders of the militant group ISIL.

It, however, noted that the international coalition forces airstrikes against ISIL bases and forces have so far failed to stop the advancement of ISIL forces towards Kurdish important city of Kobane.

ISIL artillery continued Tuesday morning heavy shelling of Kobane surrounding areas, and managed to seize control over several adjacent towns, the statement said.

It added that ISIL forces are now only four kilometers away from eastern side of Kobane.

Over the past fortnight, ISIL seized control over 70 villages in the region, forcing up to 200,000 to flee their homes. Many of the displaced crossed the borders into Turkey.
