Dubai's RTA to build USD8.16b projects by 2020


(MENAFN) The Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai (RTA) announced that USD8.16 billion worth of projects will be built across the emirate to further enhance its infrastructure in time to host the Expo 2020, Gulf News reported.

The RTA said that around 35 projects will be completed in the next few years including a 15 km extension of Dubai Metro Red Line to the Expo 2020 site.

The authority has already started work on the Red Line extension, which is expected to be completed by 2019, with operations beginning a year before the Expo start and will help in carrying 25 million visitors expected to go to the expo site and around the city.

Other key projects also include the extension of the Dubai Metro Green Line, stage two of Etihad Rail project which will integrate with Dubai Metro as well as phase two of Dubai Tram and Urban Rapid Transit System, with the first phase of the Tram set to open on November 11 this year.
