Nakheel awards Overseas Company Boardwalk construction project

(MENAFN) Nakheel announced it has that it has awarded a contract to Overseas AST Company for its 11km Boardwalk project on Dubai's Palm Jumeirah, Arabian Business reported.

The USD40 million Boardwalk, which will include an East and West Pier each stretching 100 meters out to the sea and will be six meters wide, will feature glass-encased cafes and restaurants with 30 kiosks, offering refreshments and souvenirs, throughout its 11km length and will be accessible from 14 points along the existing Palm Jumeirah sidewalk.

The piers are each set to contain 1,000 square meters of decking and will be created by building over the rocks of the Palm's breakwater, with construction projected to start before the end of 2014, and expected to be completed in mid-2016.

"The Boardwalk at Palm Jumeirah, one of several new projects underway on the island, will be a big draw for Palm residents, the wider community of Dubai and the millions of tourists who visit Dubai each year," A Nakheel spokesman said.
