Pakistan PM's travel plans leaked to protesters

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's itinerary and movements from Pakistan to London and New York were leaked to some media and protestors by government officials in Pakistan as well as in London and Washington, compromising the premier's security.

It was learnt that each and every finalised detail of PM's travel to London and then to New York was being circulated by protest organisers at least four days before PM Sharif had left Islamabad.

Those who leaked the itinerary of the premier wanted maximum participation in the demonstrations held in London and New York.

These protests were held by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI), Pakistani Awami Tehreek (PAT) All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) and their allies including members of PML-Q and Majlis Wehdet Muslimoon (MWM).

A source said that protestors were being made aware of PM Sharif's plans within minutes of the PM's plans being finalised through a section of media.

"Officials in Pakistan High Commission London and Pakistan Embassy in Washington are responsible for this and there are proofs available that they have been coordinating with protestors through some media, keeping them in the loop. It's a miracle that nothing untoward happened," an official said.

The situation became tense on Saturday when protestors became abusive and started moving towards the door of PM Sharif's apartment and not a single police officer was present on the scene. It's believed that Pakistan High Commission didn't coordinate with the Foreign Office to ask for extra security and took no steps when it was aware that a demonstration will be held outside the premier's residence. A Scotland Yard spokesperson said that it was aware that a demonstration was taking place in 'that locality'.

In every demonstration, a few policemen are always present on the scene but in Saturday's demonstration not a single policeman was seen on the spot for the two hours allotted time. The police arrived only after local residents complained that the demonstrators were staying around well beyond the permitted time.
