Navas, Campbell, Ruiz picked for Oman game


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Costa Rica has picked 13 players from the squad that reached the quarterfinals of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil for its upcoming friendly against Oman in Sohar on October 10.

Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas Arsenal striker Joel Campbell Fulham striker Bryan Ruiz and Everton defender Bryon Oviedo headline the 21-member squad that will visit Oman under interim coach Paulo Wanchope.

Currently ranked 15th in the world its highest ever FIFA ranking the Ticos will provide a tough test for Oman which is preparing for the 22nd Gulf Cup scheduled to be held in Riyadh Saudi Arabia from November 13-26.

Three days after the October 10 game Oman coached by Frenchman Paul Le Guen will take on Uruguay in Buraimi in another friendly.

In Brazil this summer Costa Rica emerged as a surprise package. Under Colombian coach Jorge Luis Pinto the team came up with its best performance in World Cup history by topping a group that comprised former champions Uruguay Italy and England.

In the last-16 stage Costa Rica defeated Greece 5-3 on penalties following a 1-1 draw in normal time.
