(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) A programme designed to impart young Omani students and apprentices skills that will help them work better will be rolled out under the 'BP Young Leaders Programme' agreement signed between Oman Sail and BP Oman.
The programme was launched at a ceremony on Monday at the Ministry of Manpower (MoM) premises. H E Maitha al Mahrouqi chairperson of Oman Sail and Undersecretary in the Ministry of Tourism and H E Dr Muna bint Salim al Jardaniya Undersecretary for technical education and vocational training in MoM were present on the occasion along with Oman Sail and BP Oman officials.
Over the course of the next 18 months 1400 Omani college and university students from Sharqiyah and Dakhliyah and BP apprentices will team up with eight MoM job seekers for three-day training workshops featuring a range of activities aimed at teaching them leadership teamwork and communications skills.
The programme to be held at Oman Sail's sailing school in Musannah reflects the growing need among employers for individuals who can show initiative integrity and creativity. It will focus on outdoor challenges that develop valuable and transferable skills such as decision making and problem solving.
Dave Campbell BP Oman's general manager said 'As a responsible company we at BP aim to have positive impacts on the areas where we operate and we are committed to our role in the society. Over the next 18 months we will provide valuable training team building and personal development experiences for a substantial number of young Omanis. Our purpose is to help people develop the right motivations self-awareness and team skills as they start to look for employment opportunities.'
David Graham CEO of Oman Sail said 'Through this programme students will engage in physical activity and will be taken out of their comfort zones on boats sub-aqua diving or camping for the very first time in their lives. This will allow them to learn taking responsibilities ownership communicate more effectively and perform when exposed to stress.'
