US Underestimated ISIS Threat Obama Says


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Washington September 29 (QNA) - US President Barack Obama said Monday that his administration underestimated the threat posed by ISIS in Syria.

In an interview with CBS Obama said that the ongoing war in Syria allowed extremist group to achieve their goals. Obama added that his administration also misjudged the Iraqi army's ability to fend off the threat of ISIS.

Obama said that ISIS have carried out a strong campaign on social media to attract young fighters from the Middle-East Europe and Australia to their group.

On the solution Obama said that part of it has to be militarily. He added that the new coalition must work on cutting off ISIS funding and decreasing the areas they are currently controlling.

Obama was keen to highlight however that a political resolution to their crises was the way forward for Iraq and Syria despite the terrorism threats they face. (QNA)
