(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) CSR Oman 2014 was inaugurated under the auspices of H E Sultan bin Salim al Habsi secretary general of the Supreme Council for Planning at the Grand Hyatt Muscat on Monday. The conference has brought together the Omani business community to discuss the changing role of corporate social responsibility (CSR).
Informa Middle East in association with Capital Market Authority (CMA) Oman Oil Co (OOC) and Oman Society for Petroleum Services (OPAL) has organised the two-day summit.
In his opening speech at the event H E Yahya al Jabri chairman of CMA said 'CSR is crucial for sustainable development and partnership between the public and private sectors for economic growth. Through supporting social economic and cultural programmes we can assure a brighter future for future generations. It is therefore essential to have a comprehensive vision mutual cooperation innovative initiatives and shared efforts to make CSR more effective.'
The panel discussions focused on the work of government institutions towards supporting the adoption of CSR and sustainability policies and their positive impact on local communities.
Key speakers Sayyed Hamid Sultan al Busaidi acting general manager of the Oman Centre for Corporate Governance and Sustainability and Mulham al Jarf deputy CEO of OOC advocated the implementation of a standardised national CSR policy that would address future objectives.
Jarf said 'It is OOC's strategy to make significant contributions on the CSR and sustainability development fronts. The summit is a great platform to plan and implement tangible ways to benefit our community.'
Busaidi said 'Case studies and best practices expert roundtables and panel discussions are a great way to gain insight explore projects and develop future partnerships. This platform is guaranteed to drive sustainability and establish a link between CSR and business growth.'
