CBI to take over Kerala political murder case

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Rajnath asks state govt to end political killings in Kannur googletag.

THE CENTRAL Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will take over the probe into the murder of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) activist K Manoj in Kerala’s northern district of Kannur allegedly by Communist Party of India - Marxist (CPM) activists last month.

This was disclosed by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh after visiting the house of the slain activist at Kathiroor near Thalaserry. A formal order entrusting the probe with the union agency will be issued within a couple of days he said.

Kerala government must end political violence in the state Rajnath Singh said even as he indicated that the growth of BJP could be the reason behind the killings of Sangh Parivar activists. “State government should take strong action. State government must try to end the environment of fear. There should be an environment where people fearlessly live in Kerala and work fearlessly” he said.

Singh is in Kannur to visit the family of K Manoj an RSS activist who was killed allegedly by CPM members early this month. The state government had recommended the CBI probe on September 7 considering the seriousness of the incident. Ruling out any involvement in the killing the CPM which heads the opposition Left Democratic Front (LDF) has decided not to oppose the federal probe.

The CPM has termed the union minister’s visit to the RSS activist’s house as part of an attempt by the Bharatiya Janta Party to derive political capital out of the incident. Leader of opposition V S Achuthanandan has termed the attempt very ‘mean.’

However the home minister has termed the murder very serious. Addressing the RSS workers after visiting the family members of the deceased Singh said the tendency to settle ideological difference through violent means was not good. Stating that no political ideology could be suppressed by violence he urged the state government to take strong steps to end the political violence in the state. “All political parties must come on board and oppose the killing of innocent people” he said.
