UAE supports legitimate Yemeni govt slams coup bid by Houthis

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Dr Gargash said the security of Yemen is the security of the Arabian Gulf and the vision of the Houthis towards Yemen mirrors the vision of the Muslim Brotherhood.

The UAE strongly stands behind the legitimate government of the brotherly Yemen and doesn’t accept any attempts of coup by creating a new fait accompli of arms violence and intimidation Dr Anwar Mohammed Gargash Minister of State for Foreign Affairs tweeted on Friday.

He said the violence unleashed by Houthi rebels and their attack on the capital city of Sanaa have undermined the political and constitutional process defied the national compromise and formed a flagrant challenge to the GCC initiative.

On his Twitter page he said guns threats and intimidation do not found a state nor do the boost it.

“Sectarianism doesn’t represent a foundation for building a comprehensive national entity that considers the diversity of Yemen and the aspirations of its people” he said pointing out that the support of the UAE to Yemen is a historic and continuous stand and constitutes “one of the essentials in our regional policy”. “And we (UAE) will not turn aside from this principle and stand.”

Dr Gargash said the security of Yemen is the security of the Arabian Gulf and the vision of the Houthis towards Yemen mirrors the vision of the Muslim Brotherhood. “Their vision is exclusive (putting others aside) partisan and rejecting diversity. It is coloured which sees only its colour.

“Yemen is passing through a crucial stage and our national duty calls us to strongly uphold the constitutional legitimacy and the Yemeni state by the determination and iron will of the Arab and international action which is necessary.

“The failure of the Muslim Brotherhood’s partisan scheme in Yemen will be followed by those of the sectarian and partisan scheme of the Houthis which is therefore no substitute for a national scheme based on the constitutional compromise that ensures stability and development.”
