Kuwaiti lawmakers discuss cooperation with Czech Republic

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The visiting delegation of the Kuwaiti parliamentary friendship committee met here on Thursday with a number of Czech officials and lawmakers to discuss ways of cementing the friendly ties between the two countries in various domains.

The delegation, led by Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Mubarak Al-Khereinj, held talks with Czech Deputy Foreign Minister Martin Tlapa on ways to open new horizons for cooperation in the presence of Kuwait Ambassador to the Czech Republic Ayman Al-Adani.

The Kuwaiti side sought Czech backing for Kuwait bid to non-permanent seat at the UN Security Council for the 2018-2019 term; the voting will take place in 2017.

The Kuwaiti side also sought Czech support for visa waiver for Kuwaitis willing to travel to an EU member country.

They called on the Czech government to facilitate the issuance of long-term visas for the Kuwaiti nationals, instead of the current three-month tourist visas, after Kuwait did so for Czech visitors.

Speaking to KUNA after the meeting, Tlapa said commended the special ties between the two countries, voicing hope for an even closer relationship.

The senior official promised to convey Kuwait's request for support to its candidacy to the UNSC non-permanent membership to the Czech Foreign Minister Lubomir Zaoralek who will in turn table the issue to the cabinet.

Later in the day, the Kuwaiti delegation held separate talks with Czech Minister of Industry and Trade Jan Mladek and Deputy Speaker of Parliament Peter Gazdik on ways to promote the economic and investment cooperation.

The delegation invited Gazdik to visit Kuwait with a view to cementing the parliamentary ties, an invitation which welcomed by the Czech senior lawmaker.

The delegation arrived here yesterday from Bratislava, capital of Slovakia; they were received by Ambassador Al-Adsani who hosted a dinner banquet in their honor last night.

Kuwait and the Czech Republic, which celebrated the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic ties last May, signed a range of agreement on prevention of double taxation, and promotion of joint investment tourist exchanges and healthcare cooperation.
