(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) US President Barack Obama on Wednesday directed Secretary of State John Kerry to set aside a total of USD 25 million for the government of Ukraine, the White House announced.
USD five million was determined for "military education and training to aid [Ukraine's] efforts to respond to the current crisis," Obama said in the memorandum.
The other USD 20 million was allocated for "nonlethal commodities and services from any agency of the United States Government to provide assistance for the Government of Ukraine." The assistance package did not include lethal aid to Kiev, even though President Petro Poroshenko specifically asked for weapons and equipment for the military during his speech in Congress last week.
This year alone, Ukraine has received a total of more than USD 340 million in aid from the Obama Administration.
