Egypt slams Turkish president for meddling

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Egypt on Thursday expressed profound dismay at remarks made by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at opening of the UN General Assembly's session, criticizing current conditions in the nation.

Erodgan's statement included "lies," said the Egyptian Foreign Ministry in a statement, adding that his remarks implied challenge to the Egyptian people will. It also accused him of seeking to trigger chaos and spread seditions in the Middle East through support for terrorist organizations and hosting terrorists.

Foreign Minister Sameh Shukry decided to cancel a scheduled meeting with the Turkish Foreign Minister that was expected to be held on sidelines of the UNGA session, due to Erdogan's "impolite rhetoric and blatant intervention in Egypt's internal affairs." Erdogan, through such "meddling in Egypt's domestic issues, has explicitly breached the UN charter and international laws," it said.

The Turkish president was quoted by the media as criticizing the Egyptian leadership of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi for "overthrowing" the former president Mohammad Morsi.

Meanwhile, the ministry condemned "execution" of a French national by militants in Algeria and re-affirmed support for international efforts to fight terrorism.
