Turkey holds Syrian president responsible for his country's crisis

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Turkey has reiterated that it holds the Syrian regime of President Bashar Al-Assad responsible for the country's plight and opines that "no real political transformation" is possible in the troubled country as long as Al-Assad holds his grip on power.

The renewed Turkish stance was manifested by the Foreign Minister, Mevlüt Cavusoglu, at an international ministerial meeting held, late on Wednesday, on sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

Addressing the meeting, themed "support for moderate voices in Syria," the Turkish official said particular attention should be devoted to the "real reasons," rather than the consequences, that led to the humanitarian tragedy in the country.

The minister appealed to the world powers to shift attention to the tragic conditions suffered by hundreds of thousands of Syrian refugees, including those who have taken up refuge in his country.

Turkey now hosts more than 1.5 million Syrians who have fled violence in their country.
