Summary: Traditionally the end of summer for many people Labor Day weekend usually means a trip to the beach and Key West Florida has become the beach more and more people are choosing.

Early September is considered by many experts to be smack dab in the middle of the high hurricane season for Key West Florida and the Florida Keys but that has not stopped many intrepid travelers from choosing that holiday weekend as their time to make an island vacation. Many people realize that it might be their last chance to do some traveling until at least Christmas if not later so they intend to make the best of one last weekend in paradise.

“The majority of the people who vacation here are from the Northeast and there is a tradition up there of going away for the Labor Day weekend” said Norman Vogel owner of The Roof Top Café. “This year with it literally being the first day of September we are expecting an even bigger crowd than normal because many families will not have had their kids back in school yet so they can come down a few days early and make a three-day weekend turn into five or six days.”

Mr. Vogel is especially looking forward to this holiday weekend as sort of a training camp for the full season which begins to pick up at the end of October and really kicks in around the holiday season. One of the most venerable Key West restaurants they just announced the hiring of Sarah Nichol their new executive chef. “This will be the perfect time for us to roll out some of the new exciting dishes she has created for us as well as make sure that some of the award-winning classics we are known for are still being made at our high standards.”

One of the top choices for couples who are throwing an island wedding The Roof Top Café is known for their “new island cuisine” a tradition that Ms. Nichol is looking forward to continuing. With an expected crowd of more than fifteen thousand people set to visit Key West Florida during this Labor Day weekend it seems like she will have plenty of opportunity to practice….an opportunity she is very much looking forward to.

“There is only so many times you can cook for the staff” Ms. Nichol said. “I’m ready for people from all over the country to see what our new menu is all about.”
