Foreign investment in Myanmar's oil, gas sector hits USD674m

(MENAFN) According to statistics by the Foreign Investment Commission, foreign investment in Myanmar's oil and natural gas sector amounted to USD674 million in August, Xinhua reported.

The investment, which is coming from 13 foreign companies, represented the highest investment in the sector since the civilian government took office in 2011, the figures showed.

However, the government gave priority to allowing investment in industrial and hotel sectors which can offer more job opportunities rather than natural resources exploitation since it took office.

According to official statistics, total foreign investment in Myanmar's oil and gas sector amounted to USD14.372 billion in 115 projects as of June 2014, accounting for 30.76 percent of the total foreign investment.
