Qatar- QRC to hold 'Support Gaza' auction

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Qatar Red Crescent (QRC) is holding a 'Support Gaza' charitable auction on Friday at the Katara Cultural Village.

The event, in the presence of eminent scholar Dr Yusuf Al Qaradawi, Chairman, International Union of Muslim Scholars, will be held between 7.30pm and 9.30pm in cooperation with Qatar TV and Al Rayyan satellite channel. The auction has attracted sponsorship from major corporations and institutions, including Alfardan Group, Jaidah Group, and Al Wajba Establishment.

Proceeds will support Gaza reconstruction efforts, including rebuilding destroyed homes, schools, mosques, and hospitals and resuming utilities and services stopped due to the recent Israeli aggression.

The auction will feature 2013 and 2014 cars and motorcycles for bidding - 14 world-class cars from Lamborghini, Ferrari, Bentley, Mclaren, Jaguar, Maserati, BMW, Chevrolet Camaro, and Mini Cooper and three Ducati motorcycles - and three pieces of the Kiswah of the Kaaba embroidered with gold threads.

Participants must be at least 18 and deposit QR50,000 as registration payment, to be refunded to losing bidders. For winners, the deposit will be applied towards the final selling price. The remaining amount must be paid in full within 72 hours of the auction, otherwise the sale will be cancelled and the deposit forfeited.

The auction is part of the humanitarian campaign launched by QRC more than two months ago to support Gaza people affected by the Israeli attacks in which 2,120 people died, 10,854 were injured, two doctors and 42 medical workers killed while performing humanitarian work, 17,200 homes destroyed and nearly 500,000 or more than one quarter of Gaza population were displaced.

After the war, the campaign shifted focus from relief to reconstruction. The QRC office in Gaza initiated reconstruction work and resumed work on pre-war projects. It surveyed the damage in some completed projects, particularly in the healthcare, education, and water and sanitation sectors, for repair and rehabilitation.

In August, a Gaza solidarity festival was organised by QRC in cooperation with Katara Cultural Village Foundation, Qatar TV, Al Rayyan TV and Q-Media. It featured cultural, artistic and musical shows by artists, singers and poets from Qatar, Palestine and Saudi Arabia.

Donations poured in from all segments of society, including individuals, companies and state institutions, raising about QR150m. QRC still receives donations from any person willing to help victims of the Gaza war via hotline 66666364, QRC premises in Old Slata or QRC agents at malls, online on www.qrcs.org.qa, or by sending an SMS with the word "???" to 92766 to donate QR100.
