The permanent working group on the humanitarian situation in Syria was formed following a resolution at the 10th meeting of GCC red crescent presidents in Kuwait to deal with the situation of Syrian refugees in neighbouring countries.

The mandate of the working group was to follow up on the humanitarian situation in Syria and propose joint action plans for GCC national societies to anticipate possible future changes in this respect, ensuring a better coordinated position and stronger role for GCC countries.
