Tokyo Stocks End Down on Anxieties over Syria


(MENAFN- QNA) Tokyo stocks ended down Wednesday as investors turned risk-averse due to fresh geopolitical anxieties related to airstrikes by US-led forces against Islamic State militants in Syria.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended down 38.45 points, or 0.24%, from Monday at 16,167.45, according to Japan's (Kyodo) News Agency.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange finished 4.70 points, or 0.35%, lower at 1,326.18.

Japanese financial markets were closed Tuesday for a national holiday.

The Tokyo market got off to a weak start following overnight losses on Wall Street due to the military operation in Syria.
