Air France's pilots reject management offer to end strike
(MENAFN) Air France's pilots have rejected a management offer to put an end to the longest strike at the airline since 1998 and is costing up to USD25.7 million a day, AFP reported.
The pilots' union rejected the offer to freeze the development of a subsidiary budget airline that the management sees as vital to compete in the cut-throat aviation sector.
"I think no one can now understand the reasons for the strike," chief executive of Air France-KLM, Europe's second largest airline, said, insisting he had made a "balanced and positive offer."
Pilots are on a strike because they fear the airline will seek to replace expensive Air France pilots, who can earn up to USD321,000 a year, with Transavia pilots, who are paid considerably less.
