(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Unidentified gunmen attacked a position of the Lebanese Army in northern city of Tripoli on Tuesday killing one soldier and wounding two others, according to a military statement.
Troops manning the position retaliated for the attack shooting at the gunmen, the army statement said, adding that the culprits were being chased by army units.
Army troops in Tripoli, some 80 km north of Beirut, have been frequently targeted with such attacks.
The military forces have recently carried out a major operation in the city, ending recurring wide-scale fighting among local militias.
