Dubai airport passenger traffic reaches 6.6m in August


(MENAFN) Dubai International's passenger traffic registered a record 6.6 million passengers in August 2014, up 10.8 percent compared to 5.9 million passengers recorded in the same month last year, Emirates 24/7 reported.

The airport returned to its full operational capacity in August after going through a 80 days runway upgrade project which reduced the airport to a single runway and caused the capacity to be cut by 26 per cent.

The January-August period passenger traffic reached 46.479.919, increasing by 5.7 percent compared to the 43.971.839 passengers registered in the first eight months of last year.

The Indian Subcontinent topped the list of regions with the largest growth in passenger numbers, followed by Western Europe, Asia, the GCC and Africa.

Meanwhile, monthly cargo volume increased by 4.3 percent in August, reaching 192,902 tons compared to 184.877 tons during the same month in 2013, while the cargo volume for the first eight months of this year reached 1.560.869 tons, dropping 2.2 per from 1.596.772 tons recorded during the same period in 2013.
