(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) As presidential elections in Tunisia draw nearer the Tunisian Embassy in Oman has announced polling dates for the community in Oman.
A senior official from the embassy said 'The Tunisian community in Oman will be able to vote in the legislative and presidential elections. The embassy has made all arrangements so that voting takes place smoothly. We encourage the community to come vote and fulfill their duty by visiting the respective bureaus set up around Oman.'
Statistics show that around 5000 Tunisians live in Oman.
Eligible ones can vote for the October 26 legislative elections on October 24 25 and 26.
The presidential elections are scheduled for November 23 and voting will take place in Oman on November 21 22 and 23.
As per the official there are six bureaus in Oman located in Muscat Sohar Sur Ibri Nizwa and Salalah. The voting will be managed by the High Independent Election Commission Oman branch. Meanwhile as the presidential campaign heats up in Tunisia relatives of a candidate who are in Oman too have entered a canvassing mode. They have taken to social networking sites chatting apps e-mails and word of mouth publicity to canvass for presidential candidate Ali Chourabi.
'My friends and I have been campaigning for my uncle Ali Chourabi who is contesting the forthcoming elections' said Sarah Chortani a young Tunisian living in Oman.
Chourabi has been a judge in several courts in Tunis Nabeul Zaghouan and Bizerte and he is currently a Judge of Third Degree the highest grade of judges in the Court of Appeals in Tunis.
A second round of voting in the event of no candidate getting at least 50 per cent of the votes will be held in late December.
The polls will be the first since Tunisia adopted a new constitution this year and stringent measures are in place to ensure fair voting according to the campaigners in Oman.
