Tentative Calm Prevails in Sana'a


(MENAFN- QNA) A tentative calm is prevailing in Yemen’s capital Sana’a after political parties including the Houthi group signed yesterday a peace and national partnership agreement.

Security sources say the northern neighbourhoods of the capital Sana'a, which had been the scene of acts of violence and confrontations over the past days, is witnessing a relative stability, despite the spread of Houthi group militants and army troops in the city and checkpoints.

The sources confirmed that traffic returned to normal especially in the main streets in downtown Sana'a which had been paralyzed over the past days due to the clashes that raged between army troops and Houthi group militants.

They added that citizens who fled the confrontations areas, started since yesterday evening to return to their homes after the halt of fighting and the signing of the agreement.

Police forces started today taking over government institutions form the Houthi militants who captured them yesterday, they added.

Political parties in Yemen signed yesterday the peace and national partnership agreement in the presence of Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi and UN envoy to Yemen Jamal bin Omar.

The agreement includes provisions foremost of which being the formation of a new government based on principles of competence, integrity and national partnership as well as broad participation of political components, cut in oil derivatives price and the formation of an economic committee to study the monetary and financial situation in Yemen.

According to the agreement, all parties shall adhere to the halt of violence in Sana'a and other governorates while swift solutions should be hammered out for areas that saw confrontations during the past period.
