GM recalls 221,558 units over parking break defect

(MENAFN) According to the top US auto safety regulators, General Motors Co. announced recalling hundreds of thousands of cars over a parking break defect that may lead to a fire, Khaleej Times reported.

The recall covers a total of 221,558 units, 205,309 of which in the US and the rest in Canada and other countries. GM has recalled nearly 15 million vehicles worldwide this year over the problem with the switches.

The defect occurred with GM's Cadillac XTS which were manufactured between 2013-2015 and Chevrolet Impala model produced between 2014-2015, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said.

"If the vehicle is operated for an extended period of time in this condition, there is a potential for the rear brakes to generate significant heat, smoke and sparks," the NHTSA said.
