(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Oman Oil Refineries & Petroleum Industries Company (Orpic) celebrated the arrival of its third batch of Omani trainees in Sohar under the patronage of H E Hamed bin Khamis al Amri Undersecretary in the Ministry of Manpower and in the presence of H E Sheikh Muhana bin Saif al Lamki Governor of North Batinah H E Said bin Humaid al Hardhi Wali of Liwa Musab bin Abdullah al Mahruqi CEO Orpic and members of the executive team of the company.
In his welcoming speech Mahruqi said 'We have already welcomed two batches of graduates who were enrolled in training programmes coupled with employment opportunities. All 100 graduates of the first batch were employed by the company' he said adding 'Work is underway to assess the second batch which consists of 110 trainees and we look forward to employing them after they successfully pass their training programme.'
The new intake of such a large number of nationals reflects the company's commitment to society by giving priority to Omanis providing them with opportunities to prove themselves in the business development of the company.
Mahruqi also said 'The current number of Omanis working in Orpic is 1125 forming 74 per cent of the total workforce. We hope to achieve our goals and succeed in our efforts to raise this percentage through training and qualification programmes that are designed for this purpose particularly now Orpic's development projects are underway.'
This new batch consists of around 330 young Omani BSc and diploma graduates who will undergo an intensive training programme related to all Orpic functions before becoming employees. This new intake is part of a plan developed and implemented by Orpic's Training Centre Services to train 500 young Omanis in groups with the objective of increasing Orpic's level of Omanisation to 78 per cent by end of 2014.
This significant number of trainees reflects Orpic's commitment to ensure that priority is given to Omani manpower in addition to offering them the opportunity to compete and participate in Orpic's business achievement and development and ultimately become part of an organisation that serves the country with pride through the uninterrupted supply of fuel and petroleum products to energise the nation's development march.
The selection process for the new trainees was recently completed in which more than 900 new graduates were interviewed after initial screening. Of the 900 over 330 candidates were selected earlier this week through a special onboarding programme. The Training Centre designed an intensive training programme for the new joinees that includes HSE training as well as theoretical courses before moving to on-the-job training. The programme has been designed in cooperation with different authorities in the sultanate to ensure that the selected candidates possess the required skills and knowledge to help them succeed in their workplace.
Orpic plans to attract around 1400 to 1600 new employees by 2018 with at least 800 of them Omanis.
