Air France's pilots to extend their strike over cost cuts

(MENAFN) The head of the SNPL union said that Air France's pilots have agreed to extend their strike over cost cuts and plans of the company's Transavia unit, Gulf Daily News reported.

More than four-fifths of the 74 percent of pilots agreed to pursue the industrial action beyond the current deadline of tomorrow, head of the Air France section of the SNPL said.

"It could continue even further (beyond September 26), given the very strong mandate," he added, calling for a meeting with French Prime Minister to help resolve the conflict with management.

The pilots are protesting over Air France's plans to expand the low-cost operations of its Transavia brand by setting up foreign bases, seeking to fight back against fierce competition from budget carriers.
