Daash Besieges 400 Iraqi military men in Anbar

(MENAFN- QNA) Iraqi security sources revealed that more than 400 military men, including officers, have been trapped in Saqlawiyah in Anbar province in western Iraq.

The sources pointed out that the trapped officers and soldiers' quantities of food and water had run out, noting that all roads leading to their positions have been planted with improvised explosive devices.

They added that the soldiers have sufficient weapons and ammunition but the lack of food and water rendered them unable to resist the gunmen, indicating that there are a number of dead in the ranks of the troops who are still in the open for the inability to reach them due to the booby-trapping of roads.

Meanwhile commander of Diyala police in northern Iraq announced the launch of a massive security operation to purge the areas located northeast of Baquba from the control of Daash including Al-Sudour dam.

Commander of Diyali police Gen. Jamil Al-Shammari said today that a joint police and army force, backed by popular mobilization battalions and the air force, began the implementation of a major military operation to cleanse the villages of Nofal, Bablan, Sensal and Hanbas, Al-Jazeera and Tayeh, in addition to Al-Sudour irrigation dam, north of Muqdadiyah, from the grip of Daash.

He added that the military operation has achieved positive results towards the progress of military forces to the targeted areas,, pointing out that the air force participated effectively in raids on the organization's hideouts.
