Clashes Continue between Yemeni Army and Houthi Group

(MENAFN- QNA) Confrontations between the Yemeni army forces and Houthi group militants continued in a number of areas of the capital Sana'a.

A Yemeni official security source said in a press statement that violent clashes are taking place between the army and Houthi group militants in the Airport Road, the area around the Interior Ministry in Al-Hasba neighbourhood and the state television building in Al-Jarraf neighborhood, north of the capital.

The source said confrontations are going on since yesterday in the Thalatheen road and Haziz neighbourhood in northwestern Sana'a after Houthi gunmen tried to attack security and army checkpoints, pointing out that the army continues the shelling of positions in which Houthi militants are stationed in a number of entrances to the capital Sanaa, using heavy weapons. It confirmed that in the clashes, raging in more than one area, dozens were killed and wounded, including civilians.

The sources added that more than 70% of the population in areas where confrontations are taking place, left their homes toward safe neighborhoods in the capital, and nearby governorates.

The clashes are raging while government sources confirm that there is not yet any significant progress in negotiations conducted by the presidency with leaders of the Yemeni Houthi group under the auspices of UN envoy Jamal bin Omar.

The sources pointed out that the UN envoy had reached a new agreement with the group's leader, Abdul-Malik Al-Houthi. However, the agreement could not be implemented due to the continued dodging by the Houthis and their failure to sign it.
