Qatar Academy holds Back to School Night

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Following the opening of a new school year, Qatar Academy Doha held a Back to School Night to forge new partnerships and strengthen established ties within the community. This meeting, held each year after the opening of classes, provides parents with the opportunity to learn more about their children's studies.

Qatar Academy's new Middle School, in particular, was fully prepared to welcome and meet the familiar and new faces of the community.

"The core teachers are set up in classroom and gave five-minute presentations about themselves, course objectives and assessment practices," Middle School Principal Cory Carson said.

"This was followed by question and answer with parents and then general discussion".

The 15-minute time slots gave the parents ample time to meet their children's teachers as well as receive valuable information on the school's 21st century learning initiatives, which are fully integrated in every subject and the Week Without Walls trips that comprise QA's experiential learning programme.

In addition, the gathering highlights the Middle School's focus, which is "providing the grade 6-8 students with support in their particular age group and within the context of the classes they're working on right now," said Carson.

"Our main concern is dealing with the needs of the pre-adolescent and adolescent youngsters and if we can better meet their needs now, then the notion is that this translates to better adjusted students who, as they exit the Middle Years Programme, are in the position to be more successful in Diploma Programme".

He added that there was real excitement about being in QA and specifically about getting to work with the faculty and students. The Back to School Night, in particular, drives home this commitment to work as a community.

"In a digital world where you can hop online and see a video or a picture, there's still room for face-to-face contact. You can't replace shaking a parent's hand," he asserted.

"The connections that are created when you have a face-to-face meeting are real opportunities for us to make sure we're coming together as a community and talk about the important things for our children, their education and their development".
