Qatar- Aspetar laboratory gets US accreditation


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Aspetar has received accreditation for its laboratory from the College of American Pathologists (CAP). This voluntary accreditation programme was created with the primary objective of improving the quality of clinical laboratory services and is only the second such accreditation in Qatar.

The announcement was made during the closing ceremony of the Aspetar fourth annual United in Quality and Patient Safety Week, which was held recently.

Aspetar has become part of an important group of internationally recognised laboratories that have met the highest standards of excellence in quality laboratory practices.

"Receiving CAP accreditation reaffirms our commitment to delivering accurate and reliable testing results to our clients and is a reflective of our focus on being centre of excellence," said Ibrahim Aldarwish, Aspetar Chief Operating Officer.

"This signifies the highest standards of laboratory practice, which is a basic factor of our organisation. It's a proud achievement for Aspetar that reflects our hard work, dedication and care for our patients"

During the CAP accreditation process, inspectors examined in detail the laboratory's records and quality control of procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also reviewed laboratory staff qualifications, as well as the laboratory's equipment, facilities, safety programme and record, and overall management.

Dr Sitina Elshafi, Aspetar Laboratory Director, added: "The CAP accreditation recognises Aspetar laboratory's commitment in implementing a high-quality standard of clinical laboratory services, we have reached one of our goals of treating our patients at the top standard levels of care as outlined by the CAP clinical guidelines and recommendations".

Aspetar laboratory's objective is to improve lives and transform healthcare, provide excellent teaching, research and quality patient service to meet the health needs of Qatar sport's community (Aspire academy, sports clubs, and federations), and the region as a whole.
