(MENAFN- QNA) The United Nation's World Food Programme (WFP) has said it would have to cut aid programmes to Syria because of budget shortfalls.
"Unless we manage to secure significant funding in the next few days, I am afraid we will have no choice but to scale back our operation," Muhannad Hadi, WFP Regional Emergency Coordinator for the Syrian crisis, said in a statement.
The Rome-based agency, which relies on donations, said it was facing a 352-million-dollar funding gap this year, including a 95-million-dollar shortfall for the Syrian crisis .
Unless new money comes in, food rations handed out to more than 4 million people inside war-ravaged Syria will be cut next month, and will provide less than 60 per cent of recommended nutritional values, WFP warned.
Budgets for Syrian refugee camps in Turkey, Jordan, Lebanon, Egypt and Iraq also face cutbacks, the agency added.
