Japan Logs 948.5 Billion Yen Trade Deficit in August

(MENAFN- QNA) Japan remained in the red in goods trade for the 26th straight month with a deficit of 948.5 billion yen in August - the longest period since comparable data became available in January 1979 - as exports shrank on the back of weaker demand in the United States and China, Japanese government data showed Thursday.

The value of exports fell 1.3% in August from a year earlier to 5,706.0 billion yen after a rebound in July, as those of automobiles and organic compounds dropped, the Finance Ministry said in a preliminary report, according to (Kyodo) news agency.

Imports decreased 1.5% to 6,654.5 billion yen, down for the first time in three months, with those of fossil fuels for thermal power generation, which has made up for the absence of nuclear power following.
