Algeria Can't Accept Foreign Military Intervention in Libya

(MENAFN- QNA) Algeria cannot accept "in no way, a foreign military intervention in Libya," Algeria's Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra said here Wednesday.

"The role of international institutions consists in helping and not interfering in internal affairs of sovereign countries. Therefore, we cannot accept, in no way, a foreign military intervention in Libya," said Lamamra on the sidelines of the International Conference on Stability and Development in Libya, organized at the initiative of Spain.

While expressing Algeria's position regarding the crisis in Libya at Madrid Conference, Lamamra said that this country "is in serious trouble but has not collapsed," adding that "the solution must be Libyan and found by Libyans." As regards the security, Lamamra underlined the need to "reach a ceasefire and enforce the United Nations ban," adding "we don't want ammunition (as a solution to the crisis)." "We want that the parties to the conflict achieve security arrangements that would help protect people and property (in Libya) and continue the fight against terrorism, as it remains a major challenge," said the Foreign minister.

Lamamra said that "Libya has an elected Parliament (...) but to consolidate its legitimacy, it must take the necessary appeasement measures in order to create favourable conditions for an inclusive dialogue and national reconciliation."
