US House Passes Obama's Syria Military Plan

(MENAFN- QNA) The US House of Representatives has approved President Barack Obama's plan to train and equip moderate Syrian rebels to counter the growing threat of the Islamic State organization despite scepticism among lawmakers in both parties about its chances for success.

The amendment authorizing the plan is part of a broader short-term spending bill to keep the federal government operating through mid-December. More than 40 per cent Democrats opposed Obama's proposal.

The Senate is expected to give the bill final approval today, according to (The Washington Post).
