Pakistan protests over border attack from Afghanistan

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Pakistan on Wednesday lodged a strong protest to Afghanistan over a deadly attack launched by terrorists across the border in the North Waziristan tribal area of Pakistan.

"Between 90-100 terrorists entered Pakistan territory on 16 September 2014 from recently established sanctuaries/safe havens across the border in Khost, Afghanistan, opposite North Waziristan," a press release by Pakistan Foreign Office said. The attack was successfully repulsed by the Pakistan military troops inflicting casualties on the terrorists who fled back to Afghanistan leaving behind three dead bodies. Four Pakistani soldiers embraced "shahadat" (martyrdom) while repulsing the attack, according to the statement.

The release further said that while lodging the protest over the terrorist attack, serious concerns were conveyed to the Afghan side on the developing threats from the recently established sanctuaries across the border in Khost and Paktika Provinces.

It reiterated that at a time when Pakistan authorities were undertaking a monumental effort against terrorists through the military operation Zarb-e-Azb, all possible cooperation was expected from the Afghan side, who must take tangible steps to eliminate these sanctuaries/safe havens to avoid recurrence of such attacks, the statement added.
