S. Africa's inflation up to 6.4 percent in August

(MENAFN) According to Statistics South Africa (StatsSA), the country posted a slight inflation increase to 6.4 percent in August, compared to an inflation of 6.3 percent in July, Xinhua reported.

August's increase was mainly attributed to an upward pressure from food and motor vehicle prices, as annual food and beverage inflation jumped to 9.4 percent in August from 8.8 percent in July.

Food inflation has been increasing since December 2013 when it registered at 3.5 percent. Meat and dairy products were the main drivers of food inflation in August.

Meat prices rebounded to their inflationary trend after a brief pause in July, increasing by 1 percent between July and August, while July's comparable figure was 0.3 percent.
