What Works for Dubai schools

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) What Works brings together educators from all the private schools of Dubai. Some 4000 teachers from various private schools in Dubai have benefited from the Knowledge and Human Development Authority’s (KHDA) What Works series – an initiative designed to help teachers learn from other teachers.

Speaking at a media briefing Hind Al Mualla Chief of Engagement at KHDA said “KHDA cannot directly intervene in how a school operates but our role is to convene and bring the teachers together. We make efforts to help schools share best practices and learn from each other.”

Ashok Kumar CEO of Indian High School Dubai said “The collaboration between schools has immensely helped us improve our own teaching standards while we have been able to learn from other schools who have been doing it better than us.”

Sharing a real-life example of collaboration between schools he explained IHS partnered with Zabeel School. Arabic-language experts from Zabeel School mentored teachers at the IHS while IHS provided the Zabeel School with support in setting up smart classrooms.

What Works brings together educators from all the private schools of Dubai. Participants have the chance to listen to teachers and principals who have demonstrated excellence in a specific area of education.

“KHDA plays a mentorship role with schools and helps them improve the learning which happens inside a classroom. It has consistently worked towards improving education standards. People who are passionate and enthusiastic about education look beyond personal gains and these are the ones who want to improve the education system” said Darryl Bloud Brand Director for Education at GEMS.

Every year KHDA convenes six sessions for teachers. Content for the day is put together by a panel of content advisors who represent the main curricula in Dubai’s private school sector. Their role is fundamental to maintaining the principle of ‘What Works’ – that the content of the day remains for schools by schools.
