Britain's inflation dips to 1.5 percent in August

(MENAFN) Official data showed that Britain's inflation dipped to 1.5 percent in August from 1.6 percent in July, easing pressure on the Bank of England to raise rates, The Peninsula Qatar reported.

August's figures outperformed analysts' expectations, who forecasted that the inflation rate will remain at 1.6 percent. The figures matched May's numbers, which had been at five-year low.

"Fall in the prices of motor fuels and food & non-alcoholic drinks provided the largest downward contributions to the change in the rate," the Office for National Statistics said in a statement.
